ERNEST - OUR INTERNATIONAL SUPER STAR!

Most visitors to the Centre will be aware of Ernest the cat who has been with us for the last 13 years, and is most likely to be found asleep on the reception desk, or looking for treats from the staff. Ernest has now become internationally famous after having contact lenses fitted!

Ernest drinking milkErnest is suffering from an eye condition where the eye lids turn inwards causing the eye lashes to irritate the eye ball. As Ernest is 15 yrs old the risk of an operation was considered too great and so  Green & Forster, our vets, came up with the novel approach of fitting him with contact lenses. Normally these would be special animal lenses but luckily we were able to use human lenses which are somewhat cheaper.

Since the story was first published in the Isle of Wight County Press, Ernest's fame has spread far and wide. Firstly the story was picked up and published in the Daily Mirror, then the Daily Mail wanted the story for their website, New Zealand radio www.radionz.co.nz ran a live interview with Paula Sadler our Manager, and Ernest's  latest claim to fame is Sky News who want to run the story. To date there are over 130 hits on the internet relating to Ernest.

Our thanks go to Laura Newitt who raised £200 over the summer and brought lots of food for the animals.
